Happy Election Day!
Did you know that elections are always held on the Tuesday after the first Monday of November? Why not the first Tuesday in November, or the first Wednesday?
Bet you really really want to know why...
Actually, it's pretty boring - In 1845 Congress decided to make a national election day. It was going to be the first Tuesday in November, but there was already a law stating that there could only be 34 days between election day and the first Wednesday in December when the Electoral College meets and sometimes the first Tuesday is more that 34 days from the first Wednesday and so... We have elections on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
But why Tuesday? Because Wednesday was market day for lots of early farmers, and they had to travel an entire DAY to get to a poling place. So in order not to mess with commerce we vote on Tuesdays
NOW GO VOTE!
Keep Smiling :D
